The Database Manager is a key member of a 6-person team that manages the National Park Foundation’s (NPF) constituent database of record, Philanthropy operations, incoming donations, constituent services, and data files for the Philanthropy division.
As a member of the larger Philanthropy division, the Database Manager serves as the primary administrator and liaison for donor records, data maintenance, extraction, and system implementation.
Based in Washington, DC, the Database Manager works closely with the Strategic Operations and Philanthropy teams to ensure NPF’s adherence to data policies, maintains system integrity, and manages database security, quality control, and user support. This position reports directly to the Senior Director, Data Insights and Operations.
Essential Functions/Duties/Tasks
- Serve as the lead administrator and internal specialist for Raiser’s Edge NXT and Luminate Online, acting as the primary point of contact and ensuring compliance with database usage guidelines and best practices.
- Maintain, update, and audit individual and organizational records, ensuring data accuracy, consistency in coding and tracking, and the regular review, research, and merging of duplicate records.
- Lead ongoing data hygiene efforts, including mass-scale data changes and updates, biographical updates, and quality control reporting; collaborate with Finance and Gift Processing teams for reconciliation and record accuracy.
- Assist in implementing new tools or enhancements to improve efficiency, increase staff capacity, and support database automation, data visualization, and reporting using Microsoft 365 integrations.
- Provide proactive support to end users, troubleshoot system issues, and lead training efforts to help staff effectively utilize RE/NXT and other Philanthropy systems.
- Perform regular data extractions and imports to support Planned and Annual Giving programs and ensure alignment of data systems with the organization’s broader fundraising strategy and goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- General knowledge of relational databases, data structure, hygiene, and maintenance principles of data structure, hygiene, and maintenance.
- General knowledge of the principles and practices of nonprofit fundraising and advancement operations, gift administration, database administration, and records management.
- General understanding of the use of automated business and systems tools needed to support the efficient management of development operations preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communications; strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and use logic and analysis to troubleshoot software problems.
- Ability to exercise curiosity and critical thinking skills to recognize when data needs attention.
- The ability to work independently, with minimal oversight of job duties.
- Commitment to supporting a solutions-oriented and collaborative team environment
Preferred Education And Experience
- At least 3 years of database management, relational databases, database reporting, and/or SQL database experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of accuracy and manage confidential and sensitive information
- Understanding and knowledge of Blackbaud, Omatic and Microsoft Power Platform products preferred.
Location: This position is located in the Washington, DC, offices of the National Park Foundation.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience.
