Job summary

University of Nebraska is seeking a database/ systems administrator to ensure continuous availability of database environments. You will design, implement, and manage database systems, monitor performance, capacity and uptime to meet university SLAs in a 24x7 operation.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, analytical skills, and effective communication. This on-site position emphasizes collaboration with IT teams and end-users to deliver reliable services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field.
  • 3 years in database administration, database development or systems administration.
  • Knowledge of database administration principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of relational database management systems and associated tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ensure continuous availability of the University of Nebraska database environments.

Job description

Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring continuous availability of the University of Nebraska database environments. Including the design, implementation, and management of systems and associated management solutions. Monitor, analyze, and ensure system performance, capacity, and uptime meet university service level agreements within a 24x7 operation. Troubleshoot complex problems, individually, with other members of the team, and with third-parties. Requires regular interaction with other networking, systems, and telecom professionals in the design and delivery of services; and with end-users to provide direct support.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree inComputer Science, Management Information Systems or related field

3 years database administration, database development or systems administration experience

Knowledge of database administration principles and practices

Knowledge of relational database management systems and associated tools

Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes

Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Equivalent combination of education and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

This position is designated as an on-site role and is not eligible for an alternative worksite arrangement at the time of hire. Approved arrangements require employees to reside within a 50-mile driving distance of one of the University of Nebraska campuses in Lincoln, Omaha, or Kearney, Nebraska.
