*Description*

Our client in the higher education space is currently looking for a SQL database admin with AWS experience. They have one database that is running in RDS. It is a SQL Server database that uses the EAD model. The role involves converting this database into a relational database or extracting it into a data warehouse to facilitate reporting. The DBA will work with report designers to improve data accessibility and database performance, and will be involved in database redesign and feature addition.

This DBA will be assigned to the largest grant-funded project and participate in knowledge transfer sessions. Initial tasks include mapping out database improvements and making data more accessible for non-technical users.

Required skills:

1. Database Architecture and Design: Design scalable, normalized, high-performance databases.
2. Advanced Performance Tuning and Optimization: Index tuning, partitioning, tempdb optimization.
3. Cloud Data Platforms Expertise: AWS RDS, security, high availability, performance monitoring, cost management, migration strategies, automation, scripting, and IaC.
4. Security and Compliance: Managing roles, policies, network access, firewall rules.
5. Backup and Restore Strategies
6. Capacity Planning and Forecasting: Analyze growth trends and IO patterns.
7. Disaster Recovery and Documentation: Create documentation and recovery playbooks.
8. Leadership and Collaboration: Lead initiatives, partner with teams, mentor junior DBAs.

Nice to have: Azure SQL Managed Instance.

This is a contract-to-hire, fully remote position, W2 only, not C2C. Pay is $45-$48/hr. Benefits include health coverage, retirement plans, insurance, PTO, and more. Application deadline: May 21, 2025.
