The State Board of Elections seeks a Database Administrator to manage Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments in Springfield, IL. You will ensure availability, performance, security, backup, and recovery for critical election systems while guiding modernization and cloud migration efforts.

Candidates should have four years of college in a related field and hands-on experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL Managed Instance, security, and disaster recovery.

Qualifications

• Four years of college (preferably computer science, information technology, database administration, or related field).
• Professional experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments including configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, security, backup/recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, SQL Ag
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems, protect confidential information, document procedures, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively
• Knowledge of Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure networking, identity and access management, and migration tools (preferred)
• Microsoft database or Azure certifications (preferred)

The Database Administrator plans, administers, secures, monitors, and supports the State Board of Elections' Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments. The role ensures availability, performance, integrity, security, backup, and recovery of databases supporting election operations and mission-critical agency systems. The position leads database modernization and cloud migration activities and collaborates with infrastructure, cybersecurity, development, and vendor teams. Work location is Springfield, Illinois, reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer.
