Responsibilities

  • Review report content to improve format and usefulness.
  • Prepare statistical reports and cost analyses for projects or operations.
  • Generate and distribute department reports and system status reports for management.
  • Search computer records to display or report information or respond to inquiries.
  • Install operating systems, databases, software, and relevant tools on computers.
  • Assist employees and departments on data operations, databases, software and hardware capabilities.
  • Consult with Metro IT professionals or vendors to resolve issues.
  • Research manuals and reports to develop systems meeting user requirements and support special projects.

Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to analyze and organize collected data, statistics and expenditures, and identify patterns and trends.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Discusses computer programs, data summarization and report form output requirements, and recommends changes to improve format, use, efficiency and utilization of reports.
  • Coordinates computer data storage, network and programming activities with computer professionals.
  • Analyzes and organizes collected data, statistics, department operational data, budgets, expenditures, revenue or grant information in computerized databases and identifies patterns and significant trends in data.
  • Creates applications programs or modifies pre-existing programs to generate mathematical calculations, ad hoc reports or requests for specific information from computerized databases.
  • Reviews purpose and content of reports to improve format and use.
  • Prepares statistical reports and cost analysis on projects, grants, department programs or operations, or research findings.
  • Generates and distributes computer reports and system status reports on department activity and operations for management purposes.
  • Searches computer records and files to display or report information or to respond to inquiries for information.
  • Installs the operating system, data base, spreadsheet, word processing, graphics, utility, upgrades and other types of software into a computer.
  • Communicates with and assists employees and other departments concerning computer operations, data base information, software and hardware capabilities, and to resolve problems.
  • Notifies Metro computer professionals to obtain assistance in correcting system errors or notifies vendors to request service or repair.
  • Researches computer manuals, periodicals and technical reports to develop computer programs and information systems to meet current and future user requirements, and conducts special projects.
  • Performs related work.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
  • One (1) year of programming or data system operations experience.
EQUIVALENCY
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants and employees in positions which perform job duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice or with youth in the care, custody or supervision of Youth Development must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, 28 CFR 115.17 and 115.317, to include periodic post-employment criminal background checks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
