Job summary

Whataburger is seeking a Data Scientist Intern based in the San Antonio Home Office. You will turn data into insights, support reporting, and develop models while building foundational data science skills in a real-world setting.

You will collaborate with analytics and technology professionals, contribute to data preparation, exploratory analysis, and model development, and help drive continuous improvement across functions.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program.
• Completion of at least 80 college credit hours.
• Foundational knowledge of Python programming.
• Basic understanding of SQL and data querying concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist Intern, you’ll help turn data into insights that support better decisions across the business. Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities

• Coursework in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience working with Python libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or scikit-learn.
• Exposure to data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and predictive modeling.
• Experience using Git or other version control tools.
• Exposure to cloud-based analytics or development platforms.
• Experience working on team projects using Agile methodologies.
• Curiosity for emerging technologies and data-driven innovation.

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross‑functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
