Job summary

DHL Express is seeking a Data Scientist to own end-to-end analytics products and lead AI/GenAI initiatives. You will manage stakeholder relationships, define analytical requirements, and translate results into business impact while collaborating with IT to deploy models in production.

The role requires 7+ years in data science, a Master’s degree in a related field, and strong Python skills with experience communicating insights to senior management.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional data science experience.
• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field, or equivalent.
• Experience leading analytics projects and communicating with leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end data science/AI projects and manage project teams.
• Analyze business processes, derive analytical requirements and data needs.
• Identify and collect required data, perform cleansing and preprocessing.
• Develop and support ML/AI models, including GenAI, and interpret results for business discussions.
• Collaborate with engineering/IT to deploy, monitor, and improve analytics solutions in production environments.
• Drive data-driven decision making by sharing insights with middle and senior management.
• Lead multiple analytics projects on an operational basis and escalate as needed.
• Mentor team members and ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.

Start YOUR career with DHL today… The Data Scientist role is accountable for end-to-end delivery of analytics products. Responsible for leading all projects to include managing and presenting the results of data analytics and AI projects and deriving analytical requirements, selecting and executing appropriate statistical, machine learning, and AI methods, and interpreting the results. Manages contact with internal/ external customers and networks on data analytics topics, as well as building relationships and communicating with middle and senior management on current and future analytics projects.

Key Accountabilities:

• Execution of data science/AI projects, project management and guidance of project team
• Analysis of the business processes as well as the derivation of problem areas and analytical requirements
• Identification and collection of required data as well as data cleansing
• Develop and support statistical/machine learning and AI/GenAI models to address business challenges.
• Interpret the model results in the business context and prepare them for discussions
• Collaborate with engineering and IT teams to deploy, monitor, and continuously improve analytical and AI solutions in production environments
• Drive the anchoring of data-driven decisions in operating business through the building up of specialist methodical knowledge and knowledge transfer from successfully completed projects
• Proactively drives the identification of new strategic application fields, or products by applying innovative methods and technologies
• Derive conclusions from modeling results and discuss them with middle / top management largely independently
• Manage multiple analytics projects independently on an operational level, consultation with supervisor for escalation, strategic decisions.
• Lead project teams, delegate tasks and take over responsibility for project deliverables

Skills/Qualifications:

• 7 years of relevant professional experience in the field of Data Science
• Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or related natural sciences / technical degree, or comparable qualification
• Experience in managing and conceptually guiding projects
• Deep knowledge of machine learning, statistics and/or mathematical optimization and AI/GenAI models, including prompt engineering and LLM-based solutions.
• Experienced in analyzing complex datasets and building mathematical models; also in a practical context
• Experience deploying, monitoring, and maintaining machine learning and AI solutions in production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python and proven experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to produce outstanding creative and analytical solutions based on clear and thorough analyses of complex processes and business relationships
• Comfortable explaining complex analytical and technical content to various audiences, ranging from operational specialists to members of top management
• Success-oriented problem solver
