Job summary

Rent the Runway is seeking a hands-on Data Science Manager to lead the growing Data Science function, focusing on personalization, recommendation systems, and AI-powered customer experiences. You will translate ambiguous business problems into scalable, production-ready ML solutions that improve customer experience and business outcomes.

You will mentor Data Scientists, prioritize work, and shape the long-term evolution of Data Science at Rent the Runway in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data science leadership with mentoring responsibilities.
• Strong Python and SQL proficiency for building predictive models.
• Solid foundation in statistics, experimentation, and causal inference.
• Experience designing and deploying recommendation systems and personalization.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and coach teams.
• Experience with cloud AI/ML platforms and services.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Data Science team, providing technical guidance, feedback, and career development.
• Define the technical direction and priorities of the Data Science function, aligned with business strategy.
• Lead strategic data science initiatives with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems.
• Analyze data to identify opportunities where ML/AI improve outcomes.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to shape product strategy and user experiences.
• Design, build, deploy, and improve recommendation systems and ranking models.
• Design and analyze experiments, A/B tests, and causal inference frameworks.
• Develop customer similarity models and behavioral segmentation for personalization.
• Collaborate to deliver production-ready ML solutions across Data & Analytics.
• Help shape hiring strategy and build a high-performing Data Science org.
• Communicate insights and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Drive best practices in experimentation, model governance, and ML development.
