Job summary

CLA, a top national professional services firm, seeks a Director of Data Science to lead the Internal IT data and AI initiatives in Austin. You will oversee analytics, AI development, and production workflows, guiding a team of analysts and engineers.

Strong leadership, technical oversight, and stakeholder collaboration are essential. The role emphasizes end-to-end delivery, governance, and responsible AI practices, with direct impact on business outcomes and client service improvements.

Qualifications

• 8 years of relevant experience required.
• Experience in data analytics, statistics, data science, AI, financial consulting, computer science or related field required.
• Experience with APIs, web scraping, SQL/no-SQL databases, and cloud-based data solutions required.
• Supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, development, and performance management.
• Mentor analysts and support onboarding, skill development, and continuous learning.
• Conduct workload planning, prioritization, and resource allocation across initiatives.
• Build and sustain a high-performing team culture rooted in collaboration, quality, accountability, and innovation.
• Lead large-scale analytics and AI initiatives from data acquisition to insight generation.
• Provide technical oversight and review of analytical approaches, models, and AI systems for rigor and reproducibility.
• Guide development of predictive models, ML/AI solutions including LLMs.
• Design AI-enabled systems with prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, and agentic workflows.
• Establish analytics best practices, documentation standards, and governance.
• Ensure model/AI validation, monitoring, and responsible AI use.
• Partner with engineering, IT, and data platform teams to enable scalable, well-governed solutions.
• Own delivery outcomes for data science workstreams and translate business objectives into analytical priorities.
• Oversee planning, prioritization, and resourcing across projects and teams.
• Monitor solution performance, validation results, and model/AI issues.
• Productionize solutions with clear ownership and integration into business workflows.
• Enforce standards for documentation, reproducibility, and quality assurance.
• Remove obstacles and manage risks across initiatives.
• Serve as primary contact for business leaders on analytics and AI initiatives.
• Define business questions, success metrics, and delivery expectations with stakeholders.
• Coordinate work across teams and locations for alignment of approaches and outcomes.
• Communicate progress, risks, and results to technical and non-technical audiences.
