Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking a Data Privacy and AI Associate with 1–3 years of relevant data privacy experience. The role involves advising clients on privacy risks, drafting policies, DPAs, and incident response plans, and handling AI matters.

Candidates should have an active bar admission or be eligible to waive in and ideally hold a CIPP certification. The firm is a large AmLaw 100 firm with an inclusive culture and strong reputation in privacy, cybersecurity, and AI law.

Qualifications

• Should ideally have at least one year of data privacy, data protection and/or data security experience.
• Must have a demonstrated interest in the field, including CIPP certification.
• Ideally will have some AI experience.
• Ideally will have some experience with incident response and data breach matters.
• Must have a solid academic record, strong legal research and writing skills, and keen attention to detail.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and show initiative.
• Must be active and admitted to the local state bar or eligible to waive in.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and mitigate risks related to the collection, storage, distribution and use of data.
• Focus on privacy counseling and guidance; review and drafting of data retention policies, data privacy and data processing agreements, incident response plans, incident reports and breach notifications; assist with data breach response matters.
• Handle artificial intelligence (AI) matters and stay current with state and federal privacy/AI laws and cybersecurity regulations.
