Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking a Data Privacy and AI Associate to advise clients on privacy risks related to data collection, storage, distribution, and use. The role emphasizes privacy counseling, drafting data retention policies, DPAs, incident response plans, breach notifications, and assisting with data breach responses.

Candidates should have 1–3 years of data privacy experience, with active interest in the field (CIPP certification preferred), some AI exposure, and strong legal research

Qualifications

• At least one year of data privacy, data protection, and/or data security experience.
• Interest in the field, including CIPP certification.
• Ideally some AI experience.
• Ideally some incident response and data breach experience.
• Solid academic record with strong legal research and writing skills; keen attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic, and initiative.
• Active state bar admission or eligible to waive in.

Responsibilities

• Provide privacy counseling and guidance to clients.
• Review and draft data retention policies, data processing agreements (DPAs), incident response plans, incident reports, and breach notifications.
• Assist with data breach response matters.
• Handle AI matters and stay current with privacy/AI laws and cybersecurity regulations.
