Job summary

Tatari is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to ensure the reliability, stability, and operational health of our data platform. This role emphasizes administration, scaling, hardening, and evolution of the platform rather than data engineering tasks.

You will work with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to address infrastructure needs while maintaining strong operational discipline. Hybrid in-office schedule supported by SF Bay Area base.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in cloud infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering.
• High Availability architecture: blue/green deployments, data replication, load balancing.
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Airflow or similar).
• Strong Linux fundamentals and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Distributed data processing (Spark, PySpark).
• Containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Data ingestion, ETL, or streaming systems (Kafka, Flink).
• Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm).
• OLAP/OLTP databases (Clickhouse, Postgres, Redshift).
• Monitoring, logging, observability (Datadog, Prometheus).
• Managed data platforms (Databricks).
• Network infrastructure fundamentals (load balancers, DNS, multi-region).
• Security and access management: least-privilege, secrets management.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability and availability of our data platform infrastructure across all environments.
• Enforce and improve environment promotion discipline; staging is not prod, production is sacred.
• Define and uphold SOPs around deployments, maintenance windows, and change management.
• Instrument and monitor platform health using observability tooling; build meaningful alerts.
• Participate in architecture and deployment discussions; push back when not ready.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers on infrastructure needs.
• Identify and remediate reliability risks before they become incidents.
• Support customer-facing and internal systems with a bias toward stability over velocity.
