Job summary

The Nuclear Company is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Engineering to architect and operate our data platform from the ground up. Reporting to the Head of Product Engineering, you will translate strategy into working systems and lead the engineering team.

You will design data models, pipelines, and tooling, enforce data quality and observability, and manage cloud costs within a defined budget. Early in the role you’ll personally develop production pipelines and convert that work into reusable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent,
• 8+ years related work experience including 3+ years supervising data engineers
• Experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms in a cloud environment
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing engineering staff
• Knowledge of distributed data processing, data modeling, and batch/streaming systems
• Experience deploying infrastructure through code and applying software development practices to data systems
• Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Experience with data quality and observability tooling
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure costs

Responsibilities

• Translate company strategy into technical specifications and lead the data engineering team
• Design data models, tooling, pipelines, and deployment approaches
• Ensure data quality, contracts, lineage tracking, and monitoring
• Manage cloud expenditure and optimize cost-performance balance
• Collaborate with business units to gather requirements and convert them into technical solutions
• Develop production pipelines hands-on in early phases and create reusable components and standards
