Job summary

Thompson Hine LLP seeks a Data Warehouse Engineer to own data movement from source systems into Snowflake and maintain on-prem SQL Server health. You will design, build, and operate a scalable analytics platform with well-modeled datasets powering analytics and decision-making across the firm.

The role focuses on building data pipelines, a trusted Snowflake data warehouse, and dimensional data marts for multiple business domains. Onsite work at designated offices is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Up to 5 years of experience in data engineering or data warehousing, including at least one warehouse built from scratch.
• Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, CTEs, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience building and supporting data pipelines into a cloud data warehouse, preferably Snowflake.
• 3+ years administering SQL Server in production: performance tuning, backup/restore, and DR planning/testing.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tooling and scheduling/orchestration of data jobs.
• Ability to troubleshoot across systems and document work thoroughly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain ingestion pipelines from source databases into Snowflake.
• Integrate data from third-party SaaS platforms.
• Monitor pipeline runs, resolve failures, and set up data-quality checks.
• Document source-to-target mappings, refresh schedules, and dependencies.
• Build and maintain a layered warehouse: raw, staging, and curated presentation layers.
• Write and optimize transformation logic in SQL with SCDs and late-arriving data.
• Design and deliver data marts and cubes for multiple business groups.
• Partner with analysts to turn requirements into well-defined data products.
• Manage Snowflake warehouses, databases, schemas, and roles with least-privilege access.
• Tune performance and control costs via sizing, clustering, and monitoring.
• Support data masking and secure development; promote to production via controlled releases.
• Manage SQL Server instances: installation, patching, configuration, capacity planning, security.
• Plan, document, and test disaster recovery including Always On, log shipping, or failover clustering.
• Maintain SQL Agent jobs, maintenance plans, and monitoring.
• Keep runbooks, data dictionaries, and architecture diagrams current.
• Produce technical documentation and data flow diagrams.
• Provide on-call support for critical loads.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable datasets.
