Job summary

Grassroots Carbon seeks a Data Platform Engineer to build and operate the core data infrastructure powering our soil carbon modeling work and PastureMap grazing management platform. You will integrate soil measurements, satellite imagery, ranch records, and partner data through a unified database to ensure reliable, high-integrity access across the company.

As the first dedicated owner of our data platform, you will drive data ingestion, dataset accessibility, and production pipeline

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data engineering or data platform with ownership of a production data system.
• Strong Python and SQL with maintainable code and tests.
• Production orchestration and deployment experience (scheduled jobs, backfills, CI/CD).
• Hands-on AWS experience and infrastructure as code; understanding cloud operating costs.
• Experience deploying ML or scientific models to production with versioning and monitoring.
• Experience with third-party API integrations handling rate limits and schema changes.

Responsibilities

• Design and build unified data platform on AWS S3 and PostGIS with versioned identifiers across internal systems.
• Ingest data from APIs, IoT devices, and imagery; ensure data quality and lineage.
• Package, deploy, schedule, and monitor science models; ensure reproducible runs and access controls.
• Provide accessible datasets and query tools for operations and commercial teams; enable defined AI-assisted access.
• Implement least-privilege access, ranch-level data isolation, secrets management, and encryption; support SOC 2 readiness.
