Job summary

Grassroots Carbon is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to build and operate the core data infrastructure powering our soil carbon modeling and PastureMap platform. You will integrate soil measurements, satellite imagery, ranch records, and partner data into a unified database for reliable access across teams.

You will own ingestion workflows, dataset accessibility, and production pipeline architecture, replacing ad-hoc data prep with automated, auditable processes that support science, operations,

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data engineering or data platform work, owning a production data system.
• Strong Python and SQL, with maintainable code, tests, and debugging skills.
• Production orchestration and deployment experience, including scheduled jobs and CI/CD.
• Hands-on AWS experience, infrastructure as code, and awareness of cloud costs.
• Experience deploying ML or scientific models to production with versioning and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design and build a unified data platform on AWS using S3 and PostGIS-based DBs.
• Develop automated ingestion pipelines for APIs, IoT, and imagery services.
• Ensure data quality with lineage, validation, and access controls; support SOC 2 readiness.
• Package, deploy, and monitor models; enable reproducible runs and versioning.
• Provide accessible datasets and query tools for operations and product teams.
