Job summary

UL Research Institutes in Morrisville, NC seeks an Analysis Software Engineer II to design, develop, and maintain Python-based data pipelines and full-stack applications supporting Chemical Insights research. You will collaborate across disciplines to deliver scalable software, implement REST APIs, and ensure rigorous testing and documentation.

The role requires strong data-science tooling experience (Polars, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and web frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI), and a proven ability

Qualifications

• Advanced technical knowledge of software development, version control, and agile development practices.
• Proficiency with Python data-science stack (Polars, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and web-application frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI), cloud services (AWS or Azure), and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Plotly), R, Java, Go, and containerization (Docker).
• Strong project management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong management, initiative, and influence skills to create alignment with multiple stakeholders and deliver results in a scientific research organization.
• Must be a self-starter and possess excellent leadership qualities.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Python-based data pipelines and web-based applications for scientific data curation and evaluation.
• Collaborate with scientists, UX/UI designers, and engineers to deliver user-focused features.
• Integrate applications with databases, APIs, laboratory systems, HPC systems, and external data sources.
• Design and implement REST APIs for service integration.
• Write unit and integration tests for reliable software.
• Assist internal scientists in using data pipelines and document systems for internal users.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in software engineering.
• Plan and prioritize project activities for on-time delivery.
• Communicate status, risks, and challenges to stakeholders; mentor colleagues in best practices.
• Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Perform other duties as directed.
