Job summary

NS2 Mission in Chantilly, VA is seeking a Senior/Expert Data Engineer to own the design, development, and optimization of scalable ETL pipelines and cloud-based data platforms. You will collaborate with software engineers and stakeholders to deliver production-ready solutions and drive modernization of mission data capabilities.

The role requires strong Python production experience, AWS skills (EC2, Lambda, EKS, S3), and an ability to lead data engineering initiatives in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
• Approximately 8–12 years of experience in data engineering or related field.
• Demonstrated ETL lifecycle experience including design, development, optimization and sustainment of data pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in Python for production-grade data processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and maintenance of scalable ETL pipelines and enterprise data workflows.
• Develop and optimize Python-based data processing applications.
• Engineer data ingestion, transformation, and integration for structured and unstructured data.
• Improve data pipeline architecture, processing efficiency, data quality and reliability.
• Design and sustain cloud-based data engineering solutions in AWS.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical approaches with mission needs.
• Diagnose and resolve complex pipeline issues and implement long-term improvements.
• Drive modernization and automation of data engineering processes.
• Support testing, deployment, integration, and sustainment across the data platform.
• Establish data engineering best practices for code quality and performance.
• Produce documentation covering system design and data workflows.
• Contribute to Agile planning and design reviews.
