Job description

Who we are

School scheduling is a hard problem, one that technology was meant to solve. Yet for decades, the master schedule has been built by hand, consuming educators’ valuable time while delivering a sub-optimal result for students. We started Timely to build the tool we wish we had when we were in schools. And today, we are changing how schools create high quality schedules for teachers and students. Timely combines groundbreaking AI technology with support from a team of expert school schedulers: saving schedulers’ time, and surfacing opportunities for leaders to unlock staff potential. Timely delivers optimized master schedules that are more efficient, accommodate diverse educator needs, and enable student access to courses and pathways that impact their lives.

Our district and school partners agree: scheduling is a key opportunity for educational innovation, and that Timely is the indispensable partner in addressing the challenge. We’re experiencing exciting growth as a company, while doubling down on our mission and people-centered approach to leveraging powerful technology. We serve districts and charter school organizations across 20+ states, growing (and renewing) at rates that lead the education technology industry. This growth has been driven by our strong product-market fit, deep understanding of education, and commitment to customer success.

About the Role

We are seeking a Data Integrations Specialist to connect Student Information Systems (SIS) to Timely’s scheduling platform. You will be part of a team that is responsible for owning outcomes around the accuracy, reliability, and speed of moving data into and out of Timely for scheduling. This encompasses data ingestion and export, integration workflows, documentation, and the scripts and tools that automate this work.

In addition to leading integrations for our partner school systems, you will work closely with key internal stakeholders (engineering, product, and school success) and external ones (district data teams, IT staff, and SIS vendors) to define and solidify these data integration pipelines for future scalability. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role that calls for comfort with ambiguity, creativity, strong communication, and a willingness to dig into technical work.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Own the ingestion, transformation, and exchange of data between specific school systems and the Timely application.
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy, security, and scalability of customer data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with our customer success team, SIS representatives, and district IT staff to design, plan, and execute data integration workflows for a subset of school systems.
  • Develop and maintain best practices, documentation, and institutional knowledge around data integrations, implementing process improvements and automation where possible.
  • Build and test lightweight scripts and tools (for example, Python scripts written with Claude Code) to automate repetitive integration work, in partnership with our engineering team.
  • Lead discovery work for integrating with new SISs, building key relationships with customers and potential SIS partners.
  • Contribute to the scaling of the data integrations function, melding product, technology, process, and organizational improvements to serve customers more effectively.
  • Support team growth by onboarding new team members and continuously improving data integration processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Deep expertise with at least one Student Information System, preferably one of the following: PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward, Aeries, Frontline, Focus, Synergy, eSchoolPlus, Alma, or Aspen.
  • Proven experience in data integration in K12 education, school or district data administration, data analysis, or data engineering
  • Proficiency with data tools such as Excel or Google Sheets, SQL, REST APIs, and SIS import/export and reporting tools.
  • Experience moving data between systems, whether through SIS imports and exports, ETL pipelines, or API-based integrations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer‑centric approach.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, remote startup environment.
  • Demonstrated ability leading technical conversations with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and an appetite for paving a new path where no established process exists yet.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strongly preferred: hands‑on experience loading and manipulating student and teacher scheduling data into a SIS. This could be as a vendor loading data into or extracting it from the SIS, or as a school or school system data administrator managing its databases directly.
  • Willingness to learn some programming to advance your work, such as using the command line and using Claude Code to build and test Python scripts. Prior software engineering experience is helpful but not required; our engineering team will support your learning.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and basic scripting for API-based data pulls.
  • Understanding of more general SIS data structures: students, courses, enrollments, sections, staffing, rooms.
Why Join Us
  • Work with an exceptional team tackling meaningful challenges in education.
  • Be part of a growing, financially healthy company with a proven product.
  • Enjoy comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, parental leave, 401(k), unlimited PTO, access to co-working, and equity in a fast‑growing startup.
