Job description

Temp 3 Months | Mon - Fri | 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM | $16 - $22 per hour

About Cox Manufacturing

Cox Manufacturing is a family owned and operated organization. Our purpose is to love God, love people, and advance American Manufacturing. We provide high volume, precision-machined parts from bar stock. As one of the largest turning shops in the nation, we are growing with patented technology and apprenticeship opportunities. Our core values - Teamwork, Continuous Improvement, Perseverance, and Excellence - drive everything we do. If you're looking for meaningful work at a company that values purpose, we invite you to join our team.

About this job

We are replacing our old system with a new platform. Before we can run on it, someone has to get decades of information out of spreadsheets and our legacy system and into the new one - accurately.

That's this job.

You'll spend most of your time building records: bills of material, work orders, tooling data. The rest of your time you'll help the Tool Room with day-to-day paperwork in the system - releasing work orders, updating job status, and issuing completed tooling to the people who requested it.

You don't need to know anything about machining. You need to be fast and accurate on a keyboard, comfortable learning new software, and the kind of person who notices when something doesn't look right and asks instead of guessing.

What you'll be doing
  • Entering and building bills of material (BOMs)
  • Creating and releasing work orders
  • Updating work order status, moving jobs through the system
  • Processing completed tooling from work-in-process to finished goods and issuing it to the requester
  • Cross-referencing information between multiple screens, spreadsheets, and applications
  • Helping maintain tooling inventory records, issuing tooling to the floor, and creating purchase requisitions for replenishment
What we're looking for
  • Strong, accurate typing. A lot of this job is data entry, and volume matters - but accuracy matters more.
  • Comfortable with computers. You should be able to pick up new software without hand-holding, and work across several windows and applications at the same time without losing your place.
  • Consistency with repetitive work. This is not a job with a lot of variety. Some people find that miserable and some people find it satisfying.
  • Follow-through. You finish what you start and you don't leave things half-entered.
  • Clear communication. When a record looks wrong or something doesn't add up, you speak up and ask. Guessing creates problems that show up six months from now.

Prior inventory data experience is not required, but it's valuable - if you've done a data migration or worked in an ERP/inventory system before, tell us. That's where the top of the pay range lives.

Where you'll work

You'll be part of the Tool Toom, reporting Tool Room Team Lead, with about six teammates around you.

Straight talk about the environment: this is not an office job. You'll have your own dedicated desk and computer, and the space is climate controlled and clean, but you'll be working inside a machine ship with a shop team around you. If you're picturing a quiet cubicle, this isn't it.

Hours, pay, and length of assignment
  • Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Expect 40-45 hours per week on average. Overtime isn't required, but we may ask for it during heavy stretches of the project.
  • $16-22 per hour, depending on experience
  • You'll be a temporary Cox Manufacturing employee on our payroll - not an agency temp
  • This temporary assignment is expected to last 3 months

On what happens after: We're hiring this as a temporary role and we want to be honest about that. That said, when permanent openings come up at Cox, we look at the people who've already worked here first. If the fit is right on both sides, that's a conversation we're glad to have. We're just not promising it up front.

Export Control Notice & Equal Opportunity Employer

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
