Job summary

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is seeking a Mid-Level Data Engineer with SQL Server DBA experience to join our Boston team. You will design, build, test, and maintain scalable data pipelines across CRM, ERP, Billing, and Legal systems, reporting to the Data Architect.

You will ensure health, security, and performance across Microsoft SQL Server environments, coordinate with Applications, Infrastructure, and Security teams, and implement robust HA/DR and data governance practices.

Qualifications

• Five years of hands-on experience in data engineering and SQL Server DBA responsibilities.
• Experience with regulated data in legal, tax, finance, or healthcare environments is desirable.
• Experience interpreting data across CRM, ERP, Billing, and Legal systems.
• Strong security and compliance mindset as foundational design requirements.
• Direct experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory or equivalent tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement data integration pipelines with standard and custom connectors.
• Develop data solutions on Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, and semantic layer architectures.
• Ensure data movement, storage, and processing comply with encryption and access controls.
• Transform data using T-SQL, Python, and PySpark in cloud notebooks and stored procedures.
• Monitor database health, optimize indexing, tune queries, and manage backups and replication.
• Design and manage HA/DR architectures (Always-On, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping).
• Perform performance tuning using execution plans and statistics; optimize bottlenecks.
• Manage security: user access, RBAC, encryption; ensure data governance.
• Schedule and test backups for business continuity; implement automated data validation and monitoring.
