Job summary

Plymouth Rock is seeking a Data Engineer inter/Co-op to join the Enterprise Advanced Analytics team in Boston. You’ll help modernize data pipelines, move data from on-prem to AWS, and collaborate with data scientists to prepare SageMaker-ready datasets.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed Master’s in CS/Information Systems/Data Engineering or related field.
• Experience building Python + SQL data pipelines or data-intensive workflows.
• Familiarity with AWS services for data platforms (S3, Glue, Step Functions).
• Experience with SQL Server and writing performant SQL.
• Comfort with Linux and bash; able to debug jobs and inspect logs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git, and basic testing practices.
• Exposure to on-prem data extraction and hybrid connectivity patterns.
• Familiarity with data lake formats (Parquet, partitioning, schema evolution).
• Exposure to monitoring/alerting (CloudWatch, Datadog) and data quality patterns.
• Interest in ML data prep / SageMaker workflows.

Responsibilities

• Assist in modernizing legacy data pipelines into Python-based, cloud-native workflows on AWS.
• Build and improve ingestion pipelines from SQL Server/on-prem to AWS data lake.
• Improve pipeline performance, efficiency, and scalability.
• Implement data quality checks and safeguards for reliable runs.
• Contribute to reusable Python modules for ingestion, transformations, and logging.
• Collaborate with data scientists/ML engineers to prepare datasets for SageMaker.
• Document code, workflows, and runbooks; keep docs updated as pipelines evolve.
