Job summary

Splice is seeking a Data Engineer II to join its Data Engineering team. You will help scale pipelines powering payouts, revenue reporting, and product analytics across Splice's product lines.

You’ll work with BigQuery, SQLMesh, Python, Dagster and contribute from design through delivery and on-call rotations. You’ll own data quality, observability, and platform reliability while improving cost efficiency and performance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on data engineering in a production environment.
• Proficiency in SQL—window functions, CTEs, optimization and execution plans.
• Proficiency in Python for pipeline logic, data transformation, and testing.
• Experience with a modern transformation framework — SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent — including incremental models, testing, and documentation.
• Production experience with BigQuery as a cloud data warehouse; understanding of partitioning, clustering and cost management.
• Experience with at least one workflow orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated ability to build observable, reliable data systems—alerting, dashboards, and data quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Build and transform data models in SQLMesh, including incremental strategies and tests.
• Improve orchestration and transformation infrastructure as the platform scales.
• Modernize legacy pipeline jobs in Python and SQLMesh to reduce technical debt.
• Participate in on-call rotation; triage incidents including ETL failures and data unavailability.
• Define alert thresholds, emit metrics/logs, and build dashboards for observability.
• Enhance platform observability to catch failures early and resolve quickly.
• Maintain pipelines for creator payouts and GAAP-compliant revenue reporting across product lines.
• Support new revenue streams with pipeline features as Splice launches them.
• Optimize query performance and reduce compute costs in BigQuery.
• Contribute to ingestion platform work and product analytics infra.
