Job summary

GRAIL is seeking an on-site Data Engineer in RTP, North Carolina. You will own end-to-end data ingestion from lab instruments and automation systems, transforming raw data into reliable datasets for analytics and AI systems. The role emphasizes data quality, orchestration, and collaboration with a fast-paced, regulated team.

Your work will involve building pipelines, optimizing SQL, and developing data models used in dashboards and AI-enabled workflows, with a focus on reliability and compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Data Science, Life Sciences, Physics or similar field.
• 1+ years of relevant professional, internship, academic, or project experience in data engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Programming in Python, Rust, C++, or similar.
• Basic understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines and relational databases.
• Strong attention to data quality, reliability and accuracy.
• Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines ingesting data from lab instruments and automation systems.
• Support analytics, reporting, and AI systems with clean datasets and data extracts.
• Develop and optimize SQL and transformation logic to model production data.
• Create datasets and models for dashboards, analytics, and AI workflows.
• Implement orchestration, testing, monitoring, and alerting for data quality.
• Apply data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Document pipelines and data models for reproducibility and compliance.
• Continuously improve engineering practices and skills.
