About The Role

b.well is hiring a Principal Data Engineer to lead the development of its next-generation data and AI platform. This fully remote role focuses on integrating large-scale data pipelines, AI/LLM applications, and real-time data systems to power innovative healthcare solutions. The engineer will play a key role in architecting high-performance data infrastructures, supporting product teams, and embedding intelligent, secure data workflows across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain scalable, secure, and observable data pipelines (batch, streaming, real-time)
  • Integrate LLMs and AI workflows into product features, including agent-based systems and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
  • Build APIs and data services using FastAPI, Kafka, MongoDB, and DuckDB
  • Design complex data transformations using Spark, Databricks, Prefect, and Pandas
  • Implement robust observability, logging, alerting, and data quality systems
  • Apply DevOps practices using tools like Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, and ArgoCD
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy and maintain low-latency inference pipelines
  • Ensure HIPAA-compliant infrastructure and secure data architecture
  • Mentor engineering team members and guide platform best practices

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in software/data engineering, with at least 5 years in distributed systems
  • Advanced Python development skills, including Pandas and PySpark
  • Strong experience with Databricks, Spark, and workflow orchestration tools (Prefect, Airflow)
  • Proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS
  • Expertise in Kafka and event-driven system design
  • Familiarity with FastAPI and building scalable APIs
  • Understanding of FHIR, HL7, CCDA standards and HIPAA compliance
  • Experience deploying LLMs or building RAG-based applications is a plus
  • Contributions to open-source or a technical portfolio (GitHub/Stack Overflow) preferred
