Senior Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric) | Fully Remote (restricted states) | $140,000 - $160,000
Want a real say in how a Microsoft Fabric platform is designed, not just built?
We’re partnering with a well-established, large-scale professional services organization that is investing in its data platform around Microsoft Fabric. They are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to shape the architecture, set the engineering standards and deliver the data products the business depends on. This is a hands‑on role with genuine influence: you will make the design calls, guide other engineers and act as the technical voice in conversations with senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture and Design
- Own the design of Fabric data solutions end to end, from ingestion into OneLake through to Lakehouse, Warehouse and semantic layers
- Define the data architecture, modeling approach and workspace structure that the wider team will build on
- Make sound decisions on performance, scalability, capacity and cost, and explain the trade‑offs clearly
- Evaluate new Fabric features and tooling and recommend where they add value
Delivery and Migration
- Build and deliver complex pipelines using Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, notebooks and Spark, with SQL and Python as the core toolkit
- Lead the migration of legacy pipelines, data warehouses and ETL workloads into Fabric, including planning, sequencing and cutover
- Support batch and near‑real‑time workloads, choosing the right pattern for each business need
- Take ownership of delivery on high‑priority workstreams from requirements through to production
Engineering Standards and Reliability
- Set best practice for pipeline development, testing, version control, CI/CD and documentation
- Embed monitoring, alerting and data quality checks into the platform so problems surface early
- Lead root cause analysis on complex incidents and drive the fixes that stop them recurring
- Review code and designs across the team and raise the technical bar
Security and Governance
- Build security, role‑based access control and data classification into the platform from the start
- Work with governance, risk and information security teams to meet internal policy and regulatory requirements
- Drive the adoption of cataloging, lineage and stewardship practices using tools such as Microsoft Purview
Leadership and Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with analytics, technology and business leaders to turn priorities into clear technical roadmaps
- Mentor engineers and help build a strong data engineering culture
- Work with BI and analytics teams to make sure semantic models and curated datasets serve reporting and AI use cases
- Communicate progress, risks and technical decisions to senior stakeholders in plain language
Key Skills & Qualifications

- Strong Python (PySpark preferred) for transformation, automation and tooling
- Proven track record in data modeling, dimensional design and Lakehouse or warehouse architecture
- Experience designing and running production pipelines with strong monitoring, testing and CI/CD practices
- Experience leading technical delivery, whether through mentoring, code review or technical ownership of a workstream
- Excellent communication with both technical and senior business stakeholders
Preferred
- Power BI, DAX and semantic model design experience
- Microsoft certification such as DP-600 or DP-700
- Experience leading large‑scale data migrations to a cloud platform
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Purview or other data governance and cataloging tools
- Familiarity with real‑time analytics and event‑driven architectures
- Exposure to AI and machine learning use cases built on enterprise data
