The New Mexico Department of Health's Office of Injury and Violence Prevention seeks a Public Health Epidemiologist in Santa Fe. You will study injury patterns, design analyses, and report findings to programs and funders using SAS, R, or STATA.

You will maintain injury data systems, support prevention initiatives, present data to diverse audiences, and help advance surveillance and evaluation across NMVDRS and CFR programs.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and one year in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology.
  • Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • The public health epidemiologist studies and analyzes the distribution (who, when, and where), patterns (including temporal-spatial) and determinants (risk factors and causes) of injuries in New Mexico.
  • The candidate will design, develop, conduct epidemiological/statistical analyses as well as evaluate injury interventions.
  • The candidate will use statistical software (such as SAS, R, or STATA) to analyze injury-related datasets and provide injury reports to programs in the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention, and to funders including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • The candidate will maintain databases of injury data (including the NMVDRS), prepare and present reports, use data to initiate and lead prevention efforts, and gain and maintain knowledge of current practices in the field of injury and violence prevention for the citizens of New Mexico.
