Job summary

Southwestern Community College is seeking an HSE & Literacy Instructor to deliver high-quality adult education in HSE and Literacy. You will design engaging, student-centered lessons, align with standards, and use performance data to adjust instruction for diverse learners.

The role requires collaboration with partner sites, strong communication skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional development to support student success inside and outside the classroom.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching adult learners.
• Understanding of adult learning principles.
• Familiarity with HSE instruction and GED/HiSET prep best practices.
• Data-driven lesson planning and contextualized learning across Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
• Strong organizational skills and accurate record keeping.
• Effective communication with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and professional competence.
• Proficiency in using technology for instruction and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons aligned with NCCC Adult Education Standards and using data to guide instruction.
• Implement contextualized curriculum across Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies to support diverse learners.
• Prepare and teach courses with flexibility to meet program needs.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment and support student retention and program growth.
• Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and progress; submit reports timely; attend meetings.
• Establish and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff, and partner locations; communicate regularly with sites.
