Job summary

Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. is seeking a Benefits Specialist in Downtown Boston to manage leave of absence and retirement plan processes within HR. You will ensure accurate data flows between vendors, payroll, and HR, while guiding employees on insurance and savings benefits.

You will counsel employees on leave, reconcile data, and support compliance with IRS limits and plan requirements, partnering with plan administrators and consultants as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; coursework toward HR certification or degree.
• At least three years in HR with focus on benefits, compliance, or data analysis.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database management.
• Knowledge of HR compliance and legal issues.
• Able to work sensitively with individuals and groups; strong communication.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor leave of absence program and retirement plan administration.
• Ensure accurate data flow between leave administrators, payroll, and HR.
• Provide employees with guidance on insurance and savings benefits.
• Counsel employees on family, medical, or personal leave; educate on processes.
• Reconcile leave data between vendors and HR systems; maintain accuracy.
• Update managers with leave status and recommend next steps per laws and best practices.
• Prepare communications to employees regarding employment status.
• Maintain understanding of ABCD policies and leave laws.
• Support retirement plan administration, auto-enrollment, deferrals, and loans.
• Coordinate with plan administrators and payroll to process corrections.
• Collaborate with providers to resolve issues and research improvements.
• Validate information to retirement plan administrators; review weekly reports.
• Assist with annual compliance census data and reporting.
• Keep retirement plan documentation up-to-date; support audits as needed.
• Monitor IRS limits changes in HR system; test changes with payroll.
• Suggest process improvements and ensure data quality for benefits and leaves.
• Support open enrollment and life events via portal and carriers.
