Job summary

TEKsystems in Temple, TX is hiring Data Center Technicians to support a major fiber connectivity project. This contract role offers 12-hour shifts, day and night options, and overtime paid at 2x. Per diem of $161/day is provided for days worked, with onsite work in a large data center.

Ideal candidates will have fiber patching, port mapping, Layer 1 networking, and troubleshooting live connectivity. You will test from port maps, maintain documentation, and support audits and deployments.

Qualifications

• Prior fiber patching in a data center environment.

• Ability to read and work from port maps.
• Understanding of Layer 1 networking and physical connectivity.

Data Center Technician (Fiber & Connectivity)

Temple, TX | Contract Through January | Per Diem

Available | Overtime Paid at 2x

Looking to gain experience in a large-scale data center environment while earning strong overtime pay? We're hiring multiple Data Center Technicians to support a major fiber connectivity project in Temple, TX.

This is an excellent opportunity for technicians with experience in fiber patching, port mapping, Layer 1 networking, and troubleshooting connectivity issues in live data center environments.

What You'll Be Doing

• Perform fiber patching and porting activities within a large data center
• Test and validate connectivity across patch panels and network infrastructure
• Troubleshoot failed fiber links using Visual Fault Locators (VFLs) and other testing tools
• Inspect, clean, and verify fiber connections before patching
• Work with MDF and IDF environments, racks, cassettes, and patch panels
• Read and follow port maps to verify connectivity and circuit paths
• Label, document, and maintain accurate connectivity records
• Follow cable management best practices including dressing, routing, and organization
• Support audits, cutovers, and infrastructure deployments

Required Experience

• Prior experience performing fiber patching in a data center environment
• Experience troubleshooting fiber connectivity issues
• Knowledge of fiber cleaning and testing procedures
• Experience with patch panels and LC connectors
• Ability to read and work from port maps
• Understanding of Layer 1 networking and physical connectivity
• Experience using a Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Experience

• Data Center Level 3 or Level 4 Technician experience
• Verizon, Microsoft, Meta, QTS, Equinix, Digital Realty, CyrusOne, or similar data center experience
• OTDR, Fluke, or EXFO testing experience
• Fusion splicing experience
• Structured cabling and Cat6 experience
• Experience using MyPatch, Surf, Elevation, or FIM systems

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
• 6 days per week
• Day and night shifts available
• 2:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• 2:00 PM - 2:00 AM
• Project expected to run through January

Compensation & Benefits

• Overtime paid at 2x hourly rate
• $161/day per diem for days worked
• Weekly hours available well above standard 40-hour workweeks

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
