Fusion Solutions, LLC is seeking a Data Center Optical Engineer in Hillsboro, OR to support racking, cabling, stacking, decommissioning and breakdown repair for datacom infrastructure. The role demands hands-on hardware replacement, power management and precise documentation.

The ideal candidate will perform remote hands services, optical testing and troubleshoot 10/40/100G networks, while adhering to safety standards. Strong customer-facing communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience working as a technician in data center operations or a similar environment.
• Team lead experience preferred
• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
• Must be a team player and have excellent interpersonal communication skills, especially with customers.
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
• Effective written and oral communication skills in English language.
• Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in stressful and demanding work environments.
• Ability to think forward and learn and apply new concepts quickly.
• Understand and follow all common and industry specific safety standards to protect personnel and assure network integrity / reliability.
• Communicate as required with multiple departments to optimize project scheduling, resolve roadblocks, and coordinate material deliveries.
• Use Hyperscale systems and applications to communicate with the customer as needed.
• Adhere to Hyperscale standards to ensure work meets customer quality requirements.
• US Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Break-Fix: Respond to after-hours issues and perform nights/weekends support as needed.
• Remote Hands: Install and test data center equipment, follow MOPs and vendor docs, interpret network diagrams.
• Cabling: Install and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cables including CAT5/6, structured cabling, RJ45 and LC connectors.
• Optical Testing and Troubleshooting: Use optical test gear to test circuits, analyze issues, and assist with card-level troubleshooting.
• Site Audits: Validate equipment placement and cabling, document results in databases.
• Racking and Stacking: Install and organize hardware in racks per SOPs, handle tools.
• Decommissioning: Safely remove and dispose of outdated hardware.
• Hardware Replacement: Replace faulty routers, servers, switches, and related IT gear.
• Power Management: Manage power feeds, ATS, and cooling considerations.
• Documentation: Read cut-sheets and ensure proper port connections and cable management.
• AC and DC Power Equipment: Maintain and troubleshoot power equipment and distribution.
• Oversight of 3rd parties on-site activities.
