Job summary

Csquare is seeking an Operations Technician 2 for graveyard shift to provide 24x7 data center support in Sterling, VA. You will install, troubleshoot, monitor, and document activities for internal and external customers.

The role requires 2+ years in IT operations, strong troubleshooting across OSI layers, and experience with copper/fiber cabling. On-site work with potential on-call and overtime; security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of operational and technical experience in an IT environment.
• IT Certification and/or familiarity with BICSI is desired.
• 2–3 years’ experience with installation, testing and termination of copper, fiber (multi & single mode) and coaxial cable.
• Working knowledge of OSI layers, TCP/IP, DNS.
• Strong troubleshooting across Layer 1-3 (physical, data link & network).
• Understanding of TIA/EIA-568 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet fundamentals.
• Unix/Windows OS navigation and basic commands.
• Security clearance via Government or other agency background check may be required.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong team player.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with colocation customers to isolate and troubleshoot issues as necessary.
• Install and troubleshoot copper and fiber cross connects and run bundles of cables throughout the data center.
• Perform Layer 1 cable testing and termination with various connectors (LC/SC, RJ45).
• Document all work in ticket system for customer requests and installations.
• Manage incoming/outgoing customer tape backups, rotations and offsite transfers.
• Monitor all critical systems using Building Monitoring System and support Facilities Team.
• Follow global policies and escalate events promptly.
• Handle installation/de-installation projects including racking, cabling and labeling.
• Move and work with ladders and hand tools as required.
• Shifts vary (nights, weekends, holidays); on-call and overtime may be necessary.

Graveyard Shift

The Operations Technician 2 (O) is responsible for providing exceptional 24x7 data center support for internal and external customers. Primary responsibilities include installations, troubleshooting, monitoring, and documentation.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work directly with colocation customers to isolate and troubleshoot issues as necessary.
• Responsible for the installation and troubleshooting of all copper and fiber cross connects and run bundles of cables throughout a data center.
• Layer 1 cable testing, including light testing, continuity – Transmit/Receive, DB Loss Level, head-to-head testing. Terminate and test cabling using various connectors (LC/SC, RJ45).
• Thoroughly document all work within a ticket system in support of customer requests and execution of installation tasks.
• Manage and prepare incoming and outgoing customer tape backups/rotations and offsite transfers.
• Assume monitoring role for all critical systems utilizing Building Monitoring System. Provide visibility and support to the Facilities Team.
• Follow all global policies and procedures. Effectively elevate events in a timely manner to the appropriate team.
• Perform and execute installation/de-installation projects that would include the racking and stacking, dressing cabling and labeling.
• Work efforts which requires work with ladders and various hand tools.
• Employee’s assigned work shift can vary based on site coverage requirements. Shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call and overtime will be necessary depending on workload requirements.
• Lifting of hardware equipment required up to and in excess of 50 pounds. Standing, bending and kneeling as needed to perform this task. Server lifts can be utilized where applicable.
• Perform additional/other duties as assigned such as (but not limited to): Physical Security including, monitoring and controlling access to the Data Center, cleanliness and appearance of raised floor (including physical clean-up) and shipping/receiving duties.

Experience & Qualifications

• College degree preferred, not required. 2+ years of operational and technical experience in an IT environment required.
• IT Certification and/or familiarity with BICSI is desired.
• 2 to 3 years’ experience with the installation, testing and terminating of copper, fiber (multi & single mode) and coaxial cable.
• Working knowledge of all OSI layers, TCP/IP model and associated protocols such as DNS.
• Highly effective at troubleshooting Layer 1-3 issues (physical, data link and network layers).
• Thorough understanding of TIA/EIA-568 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet fundamentals.
• UNIX/Windows operating system navigation, general commands and system programs/processes knowledge and experience.
• Security clearance via Government or other agency background check may be required for customer support.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
