Job summary

RedCloud Consulting, Inc. is seeking a senior network engineer leader to guide a data center networking team in Seattle/Bellevue. You will oversee technical delivery, drive standardization, and mentor engineers while maintaining hands-on participation in complex network projects.

The role emphasizes ownership of migration planning, field-ready documentation, and hands-on routing and switching across major vendors. Travel 25–40% is required with a focus on high-stakes client engagements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in network engineering, with 5+ in data center or large campus environments.
• 3+ years leading engineers with active performance management.
• Hands-on routing and switching across Cisco, Arista, or Juniper (L2/L3, VLANs, VRFs, OSPF/BGP).
• Ownership of migration planning: MOPs, cutover sequencing, rollback criteria.
• Strong physical layer knowledge—structured cabling, fiber and copper, patch panels, rack elevations.
• Experience building network inventories from incomplete or conflicting sources.
• Consulting or systems integration background with billable delivery accountability.
• Strong technical writing—documents that drive action.
• Able to travel 25–40% and pass background screening.

Responsibilities

• Serve as final technical reviewer before work goes to the client; drive first-pass acceptance
• Set the standards, templates, and processes the team works from across engagements
• Resolve gaps between existing documentation and field reality
• Serve as day-to-day technical point of contact for client stakeholders
• Build and lead a team of engineers; forecast staffing against project demand
• Set expectations and coach engineers to own outcomes and quality
• Develop engineers' technical and client-facing skills over time
• Support recruiting, proposals, and practice growth with non-billable time

Job description

Location: Seattle/Bellevue, WA Metro Area (Hybrid). Occasional travel to client sites required.

We're continuing to grow a data center network engineering team. This role will lead that team while staying hands-on, guiding the group's technical delivery on network engineering work in data center and large campus environments, such as network surveys and assessments, inventory and documentation, migration and refresh planning, and related field work.

The exact mix of client work will vary and evolve over time. We're also growing into controls, SCADA, OT, and physical security network work in data center environments, so crossover experience there is a strong plus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Delivery

• Own the technical quality of team deliverables such as network surveys, inventory documentation, cable/infrastructure schedules, and migration or refresh plans
• Serve as final technical reviewer before work goes to the client; drive first-pass acceptance
• Set the standards, templates, and processes the team works from across engagements
• Resolve gaps between existing documentation and field reality
• Serve as day-to-day technical point of contact for client stakeholders

Team Leadership

• Build and lead a team of engineers; forecast staffing against project demand
• Set the expectation — and model it yourself — that this team owns outcomes, not just tasks: engineers are accountable for the quality and completeness of their work, not just its submission
• Push the team to operate as a trusted advisor to clients, not an order-taker. Surface risk, question requirements that don't hold up, and recommend a better path when there is one
• Manage performance actively: set clear expectations, coach in the moment, and address gaps early and directly rather than letting them ride
• Deliver regular, specific, constructive feedback and recognize strong work as deliberately as you correct weak work
• Develop engineers' technical and client-facing skills over time, not just their task list

Practice Growth

• Support recruiting, proposals, and practice growth with the ~25% of your time that isn't billable

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• 10+ years in network engineering, including 5+ in data center or large campus environments
• 3+ years leading engineers, with a track record of active performance management — coaching, direct feedback, and holding people accountable to a standard
• Deep hands-on routing and switching (Cisco, Arista, or Juniper) — L2/L3, VLANs, VRFs, OSPF/BGP
• Proven ownership of migration planning: MOPs, cutover sequencing, rollback criteria
• Strong physical layer knowledge — structured cabling, fiber and copper, patch panels, rack elevations
• Experience building network inventories from incomplete or conflicting sources
• Consulting or systems integration background with billable delivery accountability
• Strong technical writing — people execute from these documents
• Able to travel 25–40% and pass background screening for restricted facilities

Preferred experience:

• Exposure to OT and controls networks: BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC, network segmentation, Modbus/BACnet/DNP3
• Physical security systems experience (Genetec, Lenel, Milestone)
• Prior work in hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical facilities
• Automation for inventory work at scale — Python, Ansible, NetBox/Nautobot
• CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $160,000 - $185,000(USD) + bonus programs + benefits.
