Job summary

Applied Digital is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer - Operational Subject Matter Expert to oversee the performance, reliability, and efficiency of our data center mechanical infrastructure.

This role requires deep expertise in chillers, evaporative cooling, CDU cooling, water distribution and treatment, diesel generators, and fire suppression, with working knowledge of building automation systems and electrical distribution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical trades.
• 7+ years of experience in data center mechanical engineering, facility operations, or mission-critical environments.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints/CAD drawings and understand mechanical plans.
• Familiarity with trend charts, refrigeration cycles, and complex mechanical system troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Serve as onsite technical resource for mechanical infrastructure with emphasis on field operation.
• Ensure cross-functional collaboration between local facility teams and global teams.
• Contribute to mechanical safety program for the site.
• Collaborate to enhance electrical system resiliency and scalability.
• Develop and maintain site Mechanical procedures (EOPs, SOPs, MOPs, Drills) per client standards.
• Plan, author, or approve work procedures for troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance.
• Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Oversee mechanical system configurations and upgrades; ensure changes follow best practices.
• Provide QA/QC oversight of construction projects and maintenance.
• Lead or participate in root-cause analysis activities.
• Provide training on mechanical equipment, systems, and procedures to engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Manage vendor relationships for mechanical maintenance and retrofit work.
• Provide feedback on global mechanical maintenance strategies and electrical design improvements.
