Job Description

This job description serves as a framework for the Network Facilities Team roles and responsibilities. It is not an exhaustive list of all tasks Facilities Team members may be responsible for. The goal is to foster understanding of expectations. The ideal candidate is located in Eastern Massachusetts and/or Southern New Hampshire.

Role: Oversee new common system and infrastructure installation/capacity augmentation projects. Manage monthly capacity reporting for assigned facilities. Handle day-to-day maintenance and preventative maintenance of FirstLight facilities. Perform subject matter and special tasks as assigned by management. This role combines responsibilities for data center processes and compliance activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee purchasing, installation, repair, and routine maintenance of assets in assigned facilities.
  • Coordinate internal resources, contractors/vendors for existing facilities and new construction, including cabinet installations and service cross connections.
  • Prepare and review monthly common system capacity reports for assigned facilities.
  • Document all facilities/assets in SP Marketplace; proficiency with SP Marketplace is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage maintenance and installation activities on major network infrastructure components.
  • Collaborate with Network Design Engineering to facilitate scope of work (SOW) packages; understand power, grounding, HVAC, and UPS fundamentals.
  • Understand and operate test equipment for troubleshooting infrastructure components.
  • Understand access procedures for all relevant sites within their area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and reporting on infrastructure components such as HVAC, emergency generators, transfer switches, and remote generator sets.
  • Oversee contract labor for installation, testing, turn-up, and maintenance of infrastructure projects.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and be available as essential personnel during emergencies.
  • Assist field operations with installation tasks when necessary.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Read and understand CLR’s, floor plans, and one-line power diagrams.
  • Manage service order workflows and inventory control protocols, including use of PIC list/POR process in SutiProcure (https://firstlight.sutiprocure.com/).
  • Use SharePoint for departmental, engineering, and NOC pages.
  • Troubleshoot point-to-point analysis and understand power architecture fundamentals.
  • Operate field test equipment for power measurement and system testing.
  • Familiar with industry installation standards and practices, including Telcordia standards, lacing, and sewing.
  • Plan network installations by reviewing customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Order and gather equipment, supplies, and tools; assess installation sites; prepare diagrams.
  • Verify service through testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identify and resolve or escalate issues.
  • Participate in educational opportunities to stay updated on technical knowledge.
  • Take ownership of tasks, explore opportunities to add value, and uphold the department's reputation.
  • Manage multiple projects and contract service providers, especially for large projects related to existing or acquired facilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The role involves walking, sitting, using hands, handling objects, talking, hearing, standing, and reaching. Must occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds, pull cables, and use hand tools. Entry into structures with stairs and ladders is required. Travel to infrastructure sites and occasional overnight travel may be necessary. Work conditions include all-weather environments, moderate noise levels, and power equipment noise.
