Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source’s client, Sabey Data Centers, is recruiting a Data Center Facilities Engineer 1 to join their team in Ashburn, VA.

Internally role is titled Data Center Operations Engineer 1

Shift Requirement:This role follows a 4 days on / 3 days off / 3 days on / 4 days off rotating schedule and will alternate between day and night shifts. While the schedule is subject to operational needs, the typical pattern includes approximately two months on night shifts followed by one month on day shifts. Flexibility and willingness to work both day and night rotations is required.

About the role:

This position will be responsible for "hands-on" day-to-day facility maintenance, repairs, and operations within the company’s portfolio. This position plays a role in maintaining data center infrastructure, ensuring high availability, and support to the operations team. The company’s data centers incorporate a variety of topologies and brands of electrical, mechanical, and environmental control systems, supporting our varied tenants’ needs.

Principal Accountabilities

Routine Equipment Maintenance:

  1. Execute scheduled and preventive maintenance tasks on data center equipment.
  2. Perform equipment checks, inspections, and cleaning as part of routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  3. Collaborate with the data center team to support preventive maintenance activities, including tasks such as equipment testing, cleaning, and inspection.
  4. Ensure that preventive maintenance tasks are executed according to established schedules and guidelines to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

Monitoring and Alert Response:

  1. Monitor data center environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, and power consumption, through monitoring tools and systems.
  2. Respond promptly to alarms and alerts, following predefined procedures to investigate and address issues or escalate them to senior engineers as necessary.
  3. Maintain vigilant awareness of equipment status and health by regularly reviewing monitoring dashboards.

Assistance in Issue Resolution:

  1. Collaborate closely with senior engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
  2. Participate in diagnosing problems, implementing solutions, and documenting incident details and resolutions for future reference.
  3. Offer support during critical incidents and participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 coverage.

Inventory Management and Documentation:

  1. Assist in managing inventory levels, tracking stock levels, and initiating procurement of replacement parts or equipment when required.
  2. Contribute to the maintenance of comprehensive documentation on equipment configurations for future reference.

Vendor and Contractor Coordination:

  1. Work in conjunction with external vendors and contractors during equipment installations, upgrades, and repairs.
  2. Follow instructions, provide assistance as needed, and ensure that external work aligns with industry standards and project timelines.

Adherence to Compliance and Safety:

  1. Strictly adhere to established data center procedures and guidelines to maintain compliance with industry standards, security protocols, and safety regulations.
  2. Promote a safety-conscious culture, emphasizing proper equipment handling and safety procedures within the data center.
  3. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper handling of equipment and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  4. Promote a culture of safety within the data center environment and report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.

Support for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

  1. Actively participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning efforts.
  2. Assist in ensuring that data center operations are well-prepared to respond effectively to emergencies, minimize downtime, and maintain service continuity.

Incident Response:

  1. Be part of an on-call rotation to quickly respond to and resolve critical incidents.
  2. Coordinate with the Operations team to implement disaster recovery plans and restore services in major outages.
  3. Document incidents comprehensively, analyzing root causes and implementing measures to prevent future occurrences.
  4. Communicate effectively with stakeholders during and after incidents to provide updates and assurance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or coursework related to data center operations are a plus.
  2. Relevant industry experience (mechanical, electrical, controls, etc.). Ability to quickly learn such systems, utilizing operations manuals and similar documentation.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  4. Ability to become proficient in other software.

Salary Range: $69,987 - $104,981 depending on experience.
