Job summary

Blue Signal Search is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer to shape reliable power infrastructure for high-availability facilities in a hybrid Kansas City environment. You will own electrical design, power system analysis, and project delivery alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.

The role offers opportunities to work with critical power technologies, build Revit models, perform fault current studies, and participate in field reviews while maintaining uptime and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or electrical engineering.
  • At least 3 years of electrical design experience in a consulting engineering environment with strong Revit capability for electrical design and documentation.
  • Experience with power system studies such as short circuit, protective device coordination, or arc flash analysis.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or critical facility electrical distribution and the codes that govern electrical design.
  • Clear communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to contribute effectively on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Data center or other high availability facility design experience is preferred.
  • EIT or PE credential, or active progress toward professional licensure, is preferred.
  • Experience with SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or comparable electrical analysis software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with generator paralleling, UPS architectures, static transfer equipment, commissioning, or electrical power monitoring systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create resilient electrical distribution designs for data center environments, carrying concepts through coordinated construction documentation.
  • Build Revit models and drawing packages that clearly communicate power layouts, single line diagrams, schedules, and design intent.
  • Develop and evaluate electrical system models for fault current, selective coordination, and arc flash performance.
  • Select and size critical power equipment such as switchgear, standby generation, UPS equipment, transformers, and panelboards.
  • Partner with architecture and engineering disciplines to resolve interfaces and deliver practical, coordinated designs.
  • Evaluate reliability strategies and redundant power architectures appropriate for high availability facilities.
  • Participate in field reviews and construction phase support, helping resolve installation questions and confirm design intent.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders, including owners, contractors, and equipment representatives, throughout delivery.
  • Apply applicable electrical codes and safety standards while balancing uptime, constructability, and project economics.
  • Contribute technical guidance to developing engineers and designers while supporting consistent project quality.
