Prime Data Centers seeks a Data Center Critical Operations Technician (COT) for our Vernon, CA facility. You will operate and maintain critical electrical and mechanical systems, including generators, UPS, PDUs, and building automation, to maximize uptime and efficiency.

You will perform routine rounds, monitor the BMS, and coordinate with contractors for maintenance while adhering to safety and security protocols.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency.
• Background in IT, electrical, and/or mechanical fields.
• Two or more years of work experience in a data-center environment or equivalent.

About the role

The Critical Operations Technician(s) (COT) are Prime Data Center’s front line responders for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

The COT maintains and follows processes that maximize customer uptime cost‑effectively. It ensures that data‑center problems are identified and repaired quickly, that contractors deliver quality services, and that internal customer demands are met.

Reports to: Critical Facilities Manager
Location: Onsite in data center located in Vernon, CA (Los Angeles, CA metro area)

Available Shifts / Schedules: This role is a non‑exempt (hourly) position with eligibility for overtime. We are hiring technicians for our new data center facility in Vernon, CA. We are currently hiring for the following shift:
8 hour – M‑F shift: 8hr M‑F Day shift with occasional shift coverage of other shifts

What you’ll do

• Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical, mechanical, emergency generator, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
• Troubleshoot facility events within internal SLAs.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
• Work mandatory 12‑hour shift (3‑ or 4‑day work weeks or nights).
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds / log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
• Perform BMS (Building Management System) facility monitoring, logging, reporting, and trending of critical information.
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare‑part inventory.
• Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies.
• Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency.
• Background in IT, electrical, and/or mechanical fields.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of work experience in a data‑center environment or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire‑life safety systems used in a data‑center environment, such as electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, chilled‑water systems, CRAC/CRAHs, pre‑action sprinkler systems.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and compliance issues as well as building codes regarding fire‑life safety.
• Current knowledge of industrial safety best practices (e.g., lockout/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA, state regulations).

Physical Requirements

• Walk job sites on uneven terrain.
• Work at heights and from ladders.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
• Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.

Competitive hourly range $39‑$46 per hour, with overtime eligibility and performance bonus program. 401(k) fully vested upon enrollment, up to a 4 % employer match. 100 % employee premiums paid by employer for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability. Paid Time Off and sick time.
