Job summary

Prime Data Centers is seeking a Data Center Critical Operations Technician to serve as the front line for electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and operation in our Dallas-area data center. You will handle emergency gensets, switchgear, UPS, and BMS, performing rounds, reading temperatures, voltages, currents, and logging data to support uptime and safety.

The role requires two or more years of technical training and is based on onsite shifts.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency.
• Background in IT, electrical, and/or mechanical fields.
• Two or more years of work experience in a data center environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment including emergency generators.
• Troubleshoot facility events within internal SLAs and perform root cause analysis.
• Adhere to safety procedures and supervise contractors during maintenance.
• Take daily readings and monitor building systems using CMMS and BMS.
• Support 12-hour night shifts and participate in ongoing process improvements.

About the role

The Critical Operations Technician (COT) is the front line responder for hands‑on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation, including stand‑by diesel generators, switchboards/switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

Responsibilities include maintaining and following processes to maximize customer uptime cost‑effectively, identifying and repairing data center problems quickly, ensuring contractors deliver quality services and meet internal customer demands.

Reports to: Critical Facilities Manager
Location: Onsite in data center located in north Dallas TX area

Available Shifts/Schedules:

• 12‑hour night shift (10:00pm – 10:00am) with occasional coverage of other shifts

What you'll do

• Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including emergency generators and fire/life safety systems
• Troubleshoot facility events within internal SLAs
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
• Adhere to all safety procedures during work
• Work a 12‑hour shift (3‑ or 4‑day work weeks days or nights)
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
• Perform BMS facility monitoring, logging, reporting, and trending of critical information
• Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare part inventory
• Supervise contractors performing servicing or preventive maintenance
• Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies
• Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency
• Background in areas of IT, electrical, and/or mechanical

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two or more years of work experience in a data center environment or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems used in a data center, including electrical distribution and layout, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, STS, ATS, PDUs, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAHs, pre‑action sprinkler systems
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and related building codes in regard to fire life safety
• Current knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc‑flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations)

Physical Requirements:

• Walk job sites in uneven terrain
• Work at heights and from ladders
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more
• Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
