Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Controls Technician to support the installation, servicing, and upgrading of BMS and EPMS at Amazon data centers.

You will deploy and maintain systems across multiple sites, mentor Facilities staff, and manage asset records and service agreements. Ideal candidates have 1+ year of relevant technical experience, a technical diploma or associate degree in instrumentation/controls, and familiarity with low/medium‑voltage systems.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of professional work experience related to computer systems or technical work.
  • Technical diploma, trade school, or associate degree with one year of experience in industrial instrumentation/controls or equivalent electrical/mechanical operations.
  • Minimum one year of experience with mission‑critical low or medium‑voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, service, and upgrade BMS and EPMS systems across multiple data centers.
  • Mentor and train Facilities team members on BMS and EPMS operation and control.
  • Audit, maintain, and manage computer enterprise asset management systems for BMS and EPMS installations.
  • Manage small to medium‑size projects and programs.
  • Perform point‑to‑point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
  • Conduct first‑line diagnostics, troubleshoot, and maintain programming code and hardware for BMS and EPMS.
  • Provision servers, controllers, industrial PCs, and network configurations; test communication between third‑party devices and controllers or servers.
  • Install, replace, configure, and calibrate sensors.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics, control panel drawings; apply basic concepts of closed‑loop controls, field sensor scaling, and controller functions.
  • Supervise low‑voltage electrical contractors performing wiring and installation of field devices in compliance with AWS requirements.
  • Support commissioning and system‑level testing.
  • Create red‑lined drawings and documentation of systems.
  • Follow change‑management procedures to generate work requests and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in factory‑witnessed tests at vendor or panel builder facilities.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
  • Ensure all personnel on site use proper safety methodology.
  • Work on‑call and on a rotating schedule when required; respond to after‑hours emergencies.
  • Monitor ticketing systems, prioritize tasks, and perform root‑cause analysis for service activities.
  • Manage service agreements, including vendor labor scheduling, quality assurance, and invoice review.

Physical Requirements
  • Walk jobsites in uneven terrain, work at heights from ladders, and perform tasks on uneven ground.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ year of professional work experience related to computer systems or technical work.
  • Technical diploma, trade school, or associate degree with one year of experience in industrial instrumentation/controls or equivalent electrical/mechanical operations.
  • Minimum one year of experience with mission‑critical low or medium‑voltage electrical and/or mechanical systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ year of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and low‑voltage copper/fiber cabling.
  • Basic understanding of industrial controls systems, controllers, and programming, including troubleshooting of analog, discrete, and networked field signals.
  • ISA Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher certification.
