Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking skilled HVAC Mechanics for Abilene, TX to service light to heavy commercial equipment and data center cooling systems. You’ll perform maintenance, diagnose issues, and perform installations on chillers, rooftop units, pumps, and related mechanical systems.

The role requires multiline expertise, safety certifications, and travel to branch sites. Union-based benefits and career development are offered as part of a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years in commercial/industrial HVAC/mechanical troubleshooting.
• Experience with centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, or ammonia/hydrocarbon systems.
• Possession of or ability to obtain EPA refrigerants license and state/local licensing.
• Willing to travel 10–20% to support branch activities.
• Must be a member or willing to join UA Plumbing & Pipe Fitting union.

Responsibilities

• Install and service commercial HVACR systems, including chillers and rooftop units.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement on HVAC equipment.
• Provide quotes and upsell opportunities, act as trusted advisor to customers.
• Communicate problem causes and corrective actions clearly to customers.
• Coordinate with local team and apprentices and provide on-the-job training.
