This is a 100% onsite position at our data center in Ashburn, VA; Shift is 8 AM – 4 PM

athenahealth, Inc. offers web-based practice management and electronic health record (EHR) software. We maintain thousands of servers, petabytes of storage, and the infrastructure supporting them. The Data Center Engineering Team (DCEng) manages the lifecycle of physical devices and environmental conditions in our data centers, coordinating with vendors and internal teams for maintenance and growth.

We seek talented individuals with technical expertise, creative thinking, and enthusiasm to support and develop this environment.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide 24x7 support for data center issues alongside local team members
  • Manage the lifecycle of servers, storage, and network equipment, including receiving, racking, maintenance, and recycling
  • Collaborate with operations teams and vendors to ensure optimal operation of equipment, coordinate replacements, and supervise facility maintenance
  • Perform daily facility walkthroughs to check for equipment errors and inventory discrepancies
  • Maintain cleanliness and cable management standards in the data center, offices, and storage areas
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, network, and connectivity issues
  • Act as first responder for technical and facility-related issues
  • Contribute to process improvements and documentation for data center operations
  • Participate in planning and design projects related to power, cooling, and networking
  • Provide remote support for physical server, network, and telecommunications equipment
  • Build and maintain relationships with facility managers and team members
  • Contribute to knowledge base and team culture
Experience Required:
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Experience in a production data center environment preferred
  • Understanding of data center power and cooling systems preferred
  • Knowledge of server components and repair preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot Dell and HP server hardware, including vendor support cases
  • Basic understanding of power, cooling, Linux CLI preferred
