Job summary

The Church Pension Group seeks a Director of Data Analytics / Data Scientist to partner with management in turning policy, premium, and loss data into strategic decisions on pricing, reserving, reinsurance, capital, and underwriting.

This hands‑on individual contributor role owns end‑to‑end data workstreams, including rate indications, reserve analyses, and renewal structures, with strong collaboration across IT, underwriting, and finance.

Qualifications

• Must produce rate or reserve indications from raw data and deliver executive-ready outputs.
• Hands-on with large policy, premium, and claims datasets.
• Exposure to reinsurance renewals, capital adequacy, and actuaries advised projects preferred.
• Expert Excel skills including pivot tables, advanced formulas, and exhibits for rate changes and reserving.
• Experience with BI/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Solid understanding of P&C fundamentals: premiums, loss development, IBNR, ALAE/ULAE, LDFs, ratios, credibility and trends.
• Knowledge of ratemaking (loss ratio, pure premium, GLM) and reserving methods (chain-ladder, BF, ELR).
• Familiarity with US rate filings and SERFF is a plus.
• Understanding how reinsurance cessions affect net results and capital.
• Knowledge of NAIC RBC, AM Best BCAR, and economic capital concepts.
• Proactive, self-directed, and able to drive analyses to completion.
• Excellent communicator who can explain technical concepts clearly.
• Strong business acumen and curiosity; high integrity and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop rate indications at segment level for personal and commercial lines.
• Support classification ratemaking and build rating factors using actuarial methods.
• Prepare rate exhibits for management and defend proposed levels.
• Maintain reserving triangles and deliver quarterly/ad-hoc indications.
• Analyze reserve adequacy and explain variances in business terms.
• Partner with claims on case reserve philosophy and large losses.
• Own the data workstream for annual reinsurance renewal data packages.
• Respond to reinsurer data calls with stakeholders across departments.
• Evaluate alternative structures (quota share, per-risk excess, aggregate, XOL).
• Run cause-of-loss studies to identify drivers of frequency and severity.
• Translate findings into underwriting, coverage form, deductibles, and rating plan actions.
• Maintain recurring loss/ratio, production, retention, and profitability reports; handle ad-hoc requests.
• Present findings in plain language and translate into concrete recommendations.
• Collaborate with IT, underwriting, and product to implement rating changes.
