Job Summary

The Data Analyst (I or II) reports to the CASI Research Administrative Manager, the CASI Center Director, and Division Leadership. Strong candidates for this role will have experience conducting observational data analyses, working with raw data from a variety of sources (e.g., administrative claims, electronic health record, etc.), and using large longitudinal datasets. The ideal candidate has strong analytic and methodological skills, excellent communication skills, and a personal mission to improve care for older adults or those living with serious illness.

Responsible for extracting knowledge and insights from data in order to investigate business/operational problems through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis, and/or visualization techniques.

Essential Functions
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data to support decisions on day-to-day operations, strategic planning, and/or specific business performance issues.
  • Collates, models, interprets, and analyzes data.
  • Explains variances and trends in data.
  • Identifies and documents enhancements to modeling techniques.
  • Completes thorough quality assurance procedures, ensuring accuracy, reliability, trustworthiness, and validity of work.
  • Performs data validation of source-to-target data for data visuals and dashboards.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
  • The Data Analyst will work collaboratively with CASI and the Division to perform a variety of activities including assisting with program evaluation, statistical analysis, and reporting results for a variety of internal and external projects and constituents, database development, software programming, data management, dashboard creation.
  • This detail-oriented, motivated, and independent individual will work with large national survey, electronic health record (EPIC), and administrative claims datasets.
  • The Data Analyst will use SAS or other analytical software and other technical tools to clean data, build datasets, and run statistical analyses for multiple projects.
  • They will be responsible for translating evaluation questions into analytic plans, constructing analytic datasets by extracting raw data, including medical claims data, from electronic data warehouses and other sources as necessary, producing appropriate data summaries, and conducting valid data comparisons and statistical tests.
  • They will have the opportunity to evaluate health care delivery models, contribute to scientific discovery and scholarship and grow in knowledge and expertise.
  • They will be encouraged to learn new methodological skills to advance science and program evaluation using state of the art approaches.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Analysis required or Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2 or more years of healthcare bioinformatics, and/or statistical analysis experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Healthcare knowledge, particularly as it pertains to electronic medical record data, is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data visualization, and Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau.
  • Knowledge and application of statistical analyses, including variance analysis and statistical significance, are preferred.
  • Project management skills and/or experience are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytic and data management skills, especially with clinical and biostatistical analyses
  • Practical problem-solving and ability to move forward in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize work, operate under tight deadlines, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Proficiency with software packages, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Resilient, collaborative, flexible, innovative, and curious.
  • Strong programming skills in SAS and/or other analytic software and willingness to learn other programming languages as necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical testing and multivariate modeling required (e.g., logistic, and linear regression, longitudinal models) used in Biostatistics/Epidemiology
  • Experience transforming and analyzing administrative healthcare data (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid, other claims-based or electronic medical records databases (EPIC)) is preferred.
  • Experience with compiling longitudinal datasets for analysis is preferred.
  • Is knowledgeable and compliant in all hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including the Division’s code of conduct, the MGH mission, credo and boundaries, hospital policy and procedures (where applicable to the performance of the job), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday days, but may vary based upon individual event demands, up to and including periodic evenings and weekend days.
