Data Analyst, GIS- Contract Role
Position Summary
The Data Analyst is responsible for managing, analyzing, and maintaining geospatial data in support of land operations. This role serves as the primary GIS resource for the land department, leveraging Quorum GIS land mapping and ArcGIS Pro to map tracts, maintain leasehold data, and produce accurate spatial analyses. In addition to land support, the analyst manages enterprise GIS services through Portal for ArcGIS, resolves GIS-related support requests, and contributes to the implementation of new GIS projects across the organization.
- Map new tracts and agreements from legal descriptions with ArcGIS Pro and Quorum QGIS tools
- Maintain and update leasehold using metes and bounds descriptions, attribute lease data from source documents, and support land acquisition and divestiture activities through map production and data integration
- Run and validate Polygen for newly added tracts, utilize Quorum's Aliquot tool to perform precise tract subdivisions, link geometries to Agreements, QA/QC confidence deviations, etc.
- Perform routine data quality checks, updates, and spatial maintenance, ensuring geodetic integrity, accuracy, and precision
- Coordinate with landmen and data teams to translate legal descriptions into accurate geospatial representations of current land positions
- Integrate data across Quorum land management modules and GIS platforms to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Develop and maintain map services, web maps, and Experience Builder applications within Portal for ArcGIS
- Assist in resolving IT tickets related to GIS requests, troubleshooting issues, and supporting the implementation of new GIS projects
- Stay current with GIS technologies, industry trends, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field
- At least 3 years of Oil and Gas professional experience
- Experience with Quorum GIS land mapping and ESRI ArcGIS Pro
- Strong understanding of oil and gas land operations, including leases, E&P agreements, mineral/surface ownership, and pooling/unitization
- Proficiency in geodatabase design, spatial data management, CRS and geodesy best practices, and cartographic standards
- Proven ability to interpret legal land descriptions, plats, and survey data
- Working knowledge of PLSS (Public Land Survey System) and Texas Abstract survey systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related field
- At least 5 years of professional and progressive experience in the oil and gas industry
- Strong working experience with Quorum GIS land mapping and ESRI ArcGIS Pro
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex spatial data into clear visuals and summaries for non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset
