With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative that will meet critical infrastructure needs and make possible strategic investments that will have lasting effects on public health. Investments and improvements through this initiative will help modernize DOHMH’s foundational capabilities and data infrastructure, enabling it to partner in complex health and health care environments and, in turn, support better public health outcomes, including COVID-19. This initiative supports larger efforts to rebalance investments in public health and more equitably serve communities and populations.

The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will work be supervised by DOHMH. This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in August 2027.

Program Description

The mission of the Bureau of Immunization (BOI) is to prevent the occurrence and transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, influenza, human papillomavirus, and invasive pneumococcal disease, through immunization. To help ensure that all New Yorkers receive recommended vaccines, BOI maintains the Citywide Immunization Registry (CIR), a database of immunizations reported to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). Most immunizations in NYC are reported through the CIR's HL7 Web Service, which allows for real-time, bi-directional data exchange between immunizing providers' electronic health record (EHR) systems and the CIR.

Job Description

DOHMH has an opening for a Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will conduct analyses of CIR data and produce reports including graphs, and maps related to immunization uptake and coverage to support Bureau of Immunization initiatives.

Duties Include But Not Limited To

• Design, plan and perform queries and analyses of CIR data to examine vaccination coverage levels in NYC and to fulfill grant requirements and data requests
• Participate in CIR data modernization projects.
• Conduct geographic analysis of CIR data and produce maps and graphs to track vaccine doses administered by demographics, vaccine and healthcare facility type, and other variables.
• Participate in the development of methods for measuring and improving vaccination coverage rates in the NYC population.
• Work closely with internal teams and CIR vendor to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate protocols and research related to CIR data quality assurance.
• Coordinate data analyses and research projects using CIR data with other units within BOI, DOHMH, and in collaboration with CDC.
• Prepare reports and presentations using CIR data for internal, local and national meetings and conferences.
• Participate in the development of manuscripts for publication.
• Performs other duties as needed to meet BOI objectives.
  
  

Qualifications

• 1 Master’s Degree in appropriate field (MPH, Statistics, or Data Analytics preferred).
• Two years of full-time experience in data analysis.
• Proficiency in statistics and statistical techniques.
• Working knowledge of databases, data models, and data matching techniques.
• Experience in SQL, SAS or R programming.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
• Knowledge of data visualization software like Tableau or Power BI.
• Familiarity with healthcare data.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.
• Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
