Job description

Why Howden?

At Howden, we’re not just building a business- We’re rewriting the rules of what a global insurance broker can be. And now, it’s your turn to be part of something extraordinary. From three people and a dog to over 22,000 employees across 56 countries, we’ve grown into a $4bn revenue powerhouse with bold ambition: to become a $13bn business with 40,000 people by 2030.

We’re launching our US retail platform with the same entrepreneurial spirit that’s driven our success worldwide-and we’re looking for trailblazers to help shape the future.

  • You’ll Own It
  • With 6,000 employee shareholders owning 34% of the company, our unique ownership model means you’re not just joining a team-you’re building a business you truly own.
  • You’ll Be Empowered
  • We’re a destination for talent where people are trusted to look after their clients and grow together. You’ll have the freedom to lead, backed by global scale and local expertise.
  • You’ll Be Part of Something Bigger
  • Our integrated platform spans broking, reinsurance, and MGA capabilities-giving you access to everything you need to deliver for clients and build something remarkable

We have always been employee-owned and driven by entrepreneurial spirit. Right from the beginning, we’ve focused on employing talented individuals and empowering them to make a real difference to the company, whilst building successful and fulfilling careers at the same time. Simply put, we hire talented specialists and give them what they need to make a difference for clients. Always have, always will.

What is the role?

We are seeking entrepreneurial, AI-enabled Data Analysts to redefine what it means to be a data-driven insurance brokerage. As a strategic partner to business leaders, your work won’t be limited to delivering dashboards. You will be a trusted partner to the leaders in your business domain and develop a deep understanding of strategic priorities, proactively building the data models, semantic definitions, and consumption interfaces that drive commercial outcomes.

You will own the domain roadmap and build interactively with stakeholders, acting as business analyst, project manager, analytics engineer, or BI developer as the need arises.

The ideal candidate combines business curiosity, analytical judgment, technical fluency, data interrogation skills, and a builder’s mindset. You are comfortable working interactively with stakeholders. You may not be an expert in dimensional modeling, data engineering, data visualization, project management, and context engineering, but you are confident that you can learn what you don’t already know.

What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate as an embedded, trusted business partner who understands business processes, decisions, pain points, desired outcomes, and priorities.
  • Proactively identify and recommend data and analytics solutions that create measurable business value rather than waiting for formal requests.
  • Work iteratively to translate business questions and stakeholder conversations into data visualizations, creative calculations, consumption-ready data models, and acceptance criteria.
  • Use AI capabilities to accelerate data exploration, requirements documentation, SQL development, calculations, visualization, testing, and prototyping.
  • Create dashboard and data-product mockups in live working sessions for immediate feedback and faster alignment.
  • Partner with engineering and governance colleagues to build end-to-end data products as ideas move from exploration to industrialization, capturing metric definitions, calculation logic, lineage, ownership, assumptions, and data-quality rules as part of product delivery-establishing standards for functions still taking shape.
  • Build forecasting, segmentation, and scenario analysis tools that support decision-making.
  • Profile, validate, and reconcile data against source systems, business expectations, and defined quality rules; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Own the analytics product lifecycle: understand, prototype, demonstrate, gather feedback, refine, validate, release, and measure adoption.
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to connect priorities to practical data and analytics solutions.
  • Comfort operating with ambiguity and limited precedent; ability to identify ambiguous business problems, structure them analytically, and translate them into actionable data products.
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgment, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Proficiency with BI tools, data visualization, and SQL, with knowledge of dimensional modeling and medallion architecture.
  • Experience using AI-assisted capabilities responsibly to accelerate analysis, development, documentation, testing, or prototyping.
  • Excellent visualization, storytelling, and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Experience with predictive modeling is a plus
  • Python or R experience is a plus
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, analytics product development, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience translating business needs into dashboards, analytical products, metrics, or decision-support solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and a modern data visualization platform such as Power BI.
  • Experience working across business and technical teams, including business leaders, subject-matter experts, data engineers, architects, and governance partners.
  • Demonstrated experience taking an analytics solution from problem definition through prototyping, validation, release, adoption, and ongoing improvement.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms, Python, Databricks, or AI-enabled analytics and development tools is preferred.
  • Insurance brokerage, financial services, or other data-intensive industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience standing up new analytics capabilities or reporting functions from scratch is preferred.
What do we offer in return? A career that you define.

Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.

And we know that separate home and work lives don’t really exist. If you’re happy and healthy at home, you’re more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work - and vice versa. That’s why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Howden we value diversity - there is no one Howden ‘personality type’. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new
  • We support each other, in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges
  • We are determined to make a positive difference, at work and beyond

We consider our people our chief competitive advantage and as such we treat colleagues, candidates, clients, and business partners with equality, fairness, and respect - regardless of age, disability, race, religion or belief, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or family circumstances.

Our sustainability promise

We’re on a life-long journey to become an ever-more sustainable group. It’s a commitment to taking care of our people and the world we live in, to doing good business, and to making a positive impact wherever we can. Our governance processes, company policies, and review systems are all geared towards our goal of making a positive impact on the world. You can read more about our sustainability work here.
