Job Summary: California public schools are actively hiring enthusiastic and talented Dance Teachers at elementary, middle, and high school levels for the upcoming school year. This is a unique opportunity for passionate dance educators to inspire students, foster creativity, and develop foundational skills in various dance styles. Due to increased arts funding from Proposition 28, many schools are expanding their dance programs, with numerous open positions across the state. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned dance curricula suitable for diverse student groups across various grade levels.
  2. Teach foundational dance techniques in multiple styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, cultural dance forms).
  3. Create an inclusive, welcoming classroom environment that encourages students to express themselves creatively through dance.
  4. Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and communicate achievements to families.
  5. Plan and direct student dance performances, recitals, and showcase events throughout the year.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues, school leadership, and families to support student growth and enrich the school community.
  7. Maintain classroom management according to district guidelines and policies.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid California Single Subject Credential in Physical Education or Dance, or eligibility to obtain one (California offers reciprocity for out-of-state educators).
  2. English Learner (EL) Authorization or eligibility to acquire it from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  3. Previous experience teaching dance to diverse student populations is preferred.
  4. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  5. Commitment to inclusive practices and encouraging artistic expression for all students.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to actively demonstrate dance techniques and engage students physically.
  2. Effective visual and auditory capabilities necessary for instructing and assessing dance skills.

Education Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, or a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.

Salary & Benefits:

  1. Competitive salary range: $56,155 – $117,259 annually, depending on experience and education.
  2. Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and retirement contributions.
  3. Additional stipends may be available for advanced degrees or extra responsibilities.

  1. Employment Type: Full-Time, Certificated.
  2. Work Year: Typically 10 months (school-year calendar).
