Mission of NCS

Our mission is to provide the children of NCS with new educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each child. Our students, including high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, acquire the academic skills necessary for success in college preparatory high schools, and develop social and emotional skills to reach their full potential.

The Opportunity

NCS is seeking a passionate K-5 Dance teacher who loves the arts, movement, and dance. Responsibilities include developing and teaching engaging, rigorous performing arts/dance curricula for elementary students, aligned with NCS standards and progressive pedagogy.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans and curricula.
  • Design and implement an age-appropriate, sequential, standards-based, culturally-responsive dance and movement curriculum tailored to kindergarten through fifth-grade students.
  • Monitor and assess student progress to ensure mastery of standards.
  • Research effective teaching methods, materials, and strategies.
  • Prepare students for examinations.
  • Suggest further learning opportunities and schedule intervention sessions for struggling students.
  • Teach students about dance's cultural relevance, including history, festivals, traditional dress, and social conventions.

Support for Teachers

  • Attend new staff orientation.
  • Participate in professional development focusing on working with students with disabilities, especially high-functioning autism spectrum disorders, understanding and planning with the Common Core Standards, curricular knowledge, instruction delivery, scaffolding techniques, assessment development, higher-order thinking, inquiry-based learning, classroom management, and family engagement.

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Proven proficiency in Dance (required)
  • One year of teaching experience in an urban setting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of working with students with disabilities, particularly high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (highly preferred)

Salary Range: $73,000-$85,000/year
