Mission of NCS

Our mission is to provide the children of NCS with new educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each child. Our students, including high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, acquire essential academic skills, and develop social and emotional skills to reach their full potential.

The Opportunity

NCS is seeking a passionate K-5 Dance teacher who is enthusiastic about the arts, movement, and dance. Responsibilities include developing and teaching engaging, rigorous performing arts/dance curricula aligned with NCS standards and progressive pedagogy.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop lesson plans and curricula.
  • Design and implement an age-appropriate, standards-based, culturally-responsive dance and creative movement curriculum tailored to students from kindergarten through fifth grade.
  • Monitor and assess student progress to ensure mastery of standards.
  • Research effective teaching methods, materials, and strategies.
  • Prepare students for examinations and assessments.
  • Suggest further learning opportunities and schedule intervention sessions for struggling students.
  • Teach students about dance's cultural relevance, including history, festivals, traditional food, dress, and social conventions.
Support for Teachers

All teachers will receive:

  • Orientation for new staff.
  • Professional development sessions focusing on:
    • Working with students with disabilities, especially high-functioning autism spectrum disorders.
    • Planning using the Common Core Standards.
    • Curricular program knowledge.
    • Instruction delivery.
    • Curriculum scaffolding for diverse learners.
    • Assessment development.
    • Higher-order thinking and inquiry-based learning.
    • Classroom management.
    • Family engagement strategies.
Educational Background and Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Proven proficiency in Dance (required)
  • At least one year of teaching experience in an urban setting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of working with students with disabilities, especially high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (highly preferred)

Salary Range: $73,000-$85,000/year
